The ATP-05 Missile Launcher Adapter for Fans Toys’ FT-15 Willis allows you to offset the missile launcher (similar to the ATP-01 Adapter for Mastermind Creations’ Sphinx) to allow for a greater variety of poses.
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Mike from ATP Designs to pick up my copy and talk with him a bit about it. The premise is simple and the execution (nearly) flawless. If you’d like to pick one up, they’re available on the ATP Designs website (as of this writing) for $10.00 plus a bit for shipping depending on where you live.
The ATP-05 Adapter is a single 3D printed piece that attaches to a point on the back of ‘bot mode that allows for the use of the small black mounting adapter that comes with FT-15 Willis. This lets you offset-mount the missile launcher on his shoulder, adding a rotational joint which allows it to swivel left or right and out of Willis’ line of sight for certain poses. It’s also a better approximation of how Hound looked in the G1 cartoon.
Fit and Finish
Upon close inspection you can certainly tell it’s 3D printed, but since it mounts on his back it’s completely out of sight. The fitment is almost perfect on every point. The clip that mounts on his back fits exactly as it should. The hole that the Willis adapter plugs into is snug enough to prevent looseness, but loose enough to allow the adapter to swivel nicely. The only issue I saw on my copy was the tab slot on the top that the missile launcher itself plugs into. It fits in there just fine, but it likes to pop out with very little provocation. I think it’s a combination of the plastic types at play here. The milky white tab on the launcher is the springy-type of plastic (it’s hard to explain), and the 3D print is a similar type of springy plastic. Perhaps the tab on the launcher is just a bit too short and smooth to really get a good grip? In any case, I’m sure a tiny bit of modding to the slot on the ATP-05 would alleviate this. Just be careful not to go too far with this, or the launcher won’t fit sung enough to stay in.
Enough with all the words and reading, let’s show off what this thing does for Willis!
